Gen Con Recap

Geez, Gen Con was much busier than I could have ever imagined it would have been, but I loved every moment of it.

By all accounts Cryptozoic knocked one out of the park and was the talk of the con. I was very impressed with the job they did and with the sheer number of people making thier way though the ballroom. Even after we’d closed for the night I’d be walking around and see a few people huddled togeather playing class decks in the hotel and even at the airport on Monday as I was getting ready to leave.

I spent most of my time during the tournament judging the day one heats and then day two and part of three main event. On Saturday afternoon I was reassigned to work league with James, which was also pretty awesome.

I wish I had a little more time to see the expo hall, but I snuck in during my lunches and managed to get all of the cards i had planned on getting signed signed and taking in as many sights as possible.

At the end of the weekend I was exhausted, but had more fun that words on this page could describe.

Pre Gen-Con

Chilling at the Cigar Bar

Yesterday I was fearful that today was going to be full of stress, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I arrived at the Austin airport around 7am in plenty of time to catch my 8:40am flight and make it through security. Surprisingly, I made it through regular security withoTheut having to be taken back to a secret room to be question about various Asian secrets (which I know none of). I had a forty minute layover in Dallas, Tx on my way to Indy, which is the part I was really scared about. A friend of mine told me that there was no telling which terminal my next flight was going to be in and that I’d probably be rushed for time. Luckily for me the terminal for my connecting flight was around twenty feet from where I came into the airport.

So despite my fears, I made it to Indy safely AND so did my luggage! I arrived about an hour before my friends did so I took some time to decompress and listen to some music.

Once everyone arrived Mikey, who arrived around 10:30am picked us up and took us to the hotel. James and I checked into our hotel around 4pm, but we weren’t able to pick up our GM badges until 5pm, so we all dropped into a pub and had a couple of drinks before going to get our badges.

After we braved the lines for our badges and loot bags, we were all hungry and decided to stop by one of my favourite places, PF Chang’s, for dinner. After dinner we walked around and found one of the chillest places of all time, a cigar bar called, Nicky Blanes. If you’re ever in Indy I highly recommend you stop by here. After chilling there for a couple of hours and smoking some amazing cigars, we all retired back to our rooms to get some rest of what will surely be a huge day tomorrow at the first day of The WoW TCG World Championships.
